More Fukushima households pressed to evacuate

Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant

Tokyo (majirox news) – Japan’s government recommended 113 households of Date city in Fukushima prefecture evacuate from four districts considered radiation “hot spots” near the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, officials said June 30.

Officials added the households would be given financial assistance.

The districts are Ryozenmachi, Kamioguni, Shimooguni and Tsukidatemachi in Date, about 60 kilometers (about 37 miles) northwest of the plant, far beyond the 20-kilometer (about 20 miles) exclusion zone directly around it.

Higher levels of radiation have been detected in Date, causing fears that residents’ accumulated exposure may exceed 20 millisieverts per year, which is the government’s limit for evacuation.
