OSAKA (majirox news) — A former Osaka Prefectural Police sergeant faces charges for using a pencil case in an assault against a Ugandan man being questioned over drug smuggling, police said.

Police have sent documents to the Osaka District Public Prosecutors Office accusing Yoshinobu Fujii of abuse by a special public officer.

Police said that Fujii punched a 37-year-old Ugandan man in the chest and shoved a pencil case in his mouth during a series of assaults while questioning him at the Kansai International Airport and Sennan police stations over drug smuggling allegations during three days in early May this year.

Fujii, 40, resigned from the Osaka force in June after he was given a six-month suspension in connection with the case in which a further four police officers have also been punished.

The Ugandan man has subsequently been charged with a series of offenses, including breaking the Stimulants Control Law.
