Student suspended for tweeting about drunken bike ride

FUKUOKA (majirox news) — A Fukuoka University student who tweeted that he had been on the roads after drinking has been suspended for three months for bringing the college’s name into disrepute, university officials said July 26.

The third-year business student, whose name has not been disclosed, has admitted to the wrongdoing.

“I was feeling great after having had a drink,” he said. “I had no idea this would turn into such a huge incident.”

University officials said that in the early hours of the morning on July 9 the student drank with friends and then returned to his Fukuoka home by bicycle. At about 3 a.m. on the same day, he posted on Twitter a tweet saying, “I’m home. Worked. My heart was pounding over my first time driving drunk in a while.” The student did not mention he had been riding a bicycle.

A number of people saw the tweet and pointed it out to the university, complaining about the student. University officials questioned the student, who confirmed that he had ridden his bicycle while drunk.
