Music ensemble at Daimaru Department Store in Tokyo

TOKYO (majirox news) — Daimaru Department Store held an electricity-free musical concert on an escalator next to Tokyo Station to help customers cool down on a sweltering Aug. 7.

An instrumental quartet made up of a flute, violin, viola and cello played on the stationary escalator, soothing customers with their rendition of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, in the department store. Daimaru added a matching ambience courtesy of having dimmed its lighting by 30% to save power.

Daimaru, which adjoins Tokyo Station, will hold similar classical musical performances on the escalator daily at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. from Aug. 12 through Aug. 14.
