PUSAN, South Korea (majirox news) — A Pusan company has been reported to prosecutors for importing mackerel from Fukushima prefecture sold cheaply amid fears of radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear crisis and selling it as Korean produce, Pusan police said.

The allegedly offending company, which police did not name, imported 61 tons of cut-price Japanese mackerel from May to July and repackaged it as South Korean fish then “exported” it back to Japan or sold it domestically.

At least one other South Korean company has been buying large quantities of Japanese mackerel selling at drastically reduced prices due to fears about radiation, then repackaging it as domestic product for sale within South Korea, local police said.
