TOKYO (majirox news) — The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) will distribute radiation readers to schools nationwide from September to provide “correct information” about radiation to offset discrimination against Fukushima prefecture children from being bullied after evacuating to other areas in the wake of the nuclear crisis.

The ministry says the readers will focus on providing basic knowledge about radiation, including the types produced and how it exists in the atmosphere and is used in medicine. They will also explain the safe levels of radiation absorption and basic knowledge about its effects on the body.

The readers, which will be made and distributed to elementary, junior high and high schools throughout Japan, will also provide information on responding to radiation-related emergencies.
