Driver loses control in Osaka Drift exhibition, 2 hurt

OSAKA (majirox news) — A driver during a “Drift” exhibition using U.S.-made cars in Osaka faces charges Aug. 22 after he lost control of his vehicle, skidded into the crowd and hit and injured two people, Osaka Prefectural Police said.

Police are questioning the 34-year-old driver from Izumi, Osaka prefecture, who drifted into the crowd, hitting a man and woman who both suffered knee injuries.

“I made a mistake with my steering,” the man was quoted as saying by police, who are poised to file charges against him for negligence resulting in injury.

Police said the driver was part of a drift show put on as part of exhibition of U.S.-made cars on Sunday and was showing the crowd his skills at sliding his vehicle at high speeds when he lost control and flowed into the watching crowd of about 100.
