Nadeshiko waltzes over Australia’s Matildas

TOKYO (majirox news) — Nadeshiko Japan, the national women’s team, took a big step closer to competing in the 2012 London Olympics on Sept. 5 with a 1-0 win against Australia’s Matildas in Shandong, China.

Nahomi Kawasumi continued her fine form with a 62-minute goal that remained the only score for the match in a seesaw tussles where both sides had their chances.

Japan remains unbeaten after three games in the six-team Asian Qualifying Group playing a round-robin tournament. The top two teams after the tournament gain the right to play in next year’s Olympics.

Japan’s next match is against fierce rival North Korea on Sept. 8.
