The 10.1 inch screen computers will run on Google’s Android 3.2 operating system and be compatible with the Xi (pronounced “Crossy”) service’s maximum data communications speed of 37.5 mbps.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE SC-01D and Fujitsu’s Arrows Tab LTE F-01D will be the first tablets on Xi.
“New possibilities will open up when high-speed large-volume data communication and large-screen tablet-type terminals are combined,” DoCoMo President Ryuji Yamada told a news conference in Tokyo.
Fujitsu’s tablet computer features functions such as water resistance and the ability to receive One-Seg digital television broadcasting services for mobile devices.
Xi offers roughly five times the maximum data communication speed of 3G (third-generation) mobile phone services.
“We want companies to account for about 40% of sales,” Yamada said.
