TOKYO (majirox news) — Japan’s beer shipments hit their worst-ever August figures due to lower than normal temperatures in the year’s hottest month and continuing changing tastes, major beer companies said Sept. 12.
Shipments of beer, happoshu and Type-3 beer amounted to 40.98 million cases, a year-on-year decline of 3.8%
Overall beer shipments (which include full-brew beer, happoshu and Type-3 beer) have declined. Shipments of Type-3 beer, which has lower taxes and a cheaper retail price, are the only one of the three types of beverage to increase. Full-brew beer and happoshu shipments declined.
Beer, meanwhile, recorded a second consecutive month of declining shipment figures in August, dropping 6.3%. Happoshu continued its steep decline in the market, with August shipments dropping 11.2% and to notch a seventh consecutive month of decreases.
