World’s biggest game show kicks off near Tokyo


MAKUHARI, Chiba (majirox news) — Tokyo Game Show 2011, the world’s biggest game exhibition, kicked off here on Sept. 15.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. unveiled the PlayStation Vita to a domestic Japanese audience for the first time and rival Nintendo Co. released new software for its struggling 3DS console as industry heavyweights prepared for Christmas and year-end sales.

Organizers have also set up a special area for growing segments, such as games for smartphones or social networking services.

There are 193 exhibitors from 16 countries or territories at the show, which opens to the general public on Sept. 17 and 18, with 190,000 expected to attend.
