Japan’s first anime DJ bar opens in Akihabara

TOKYO (majirox news) — Japan’s first ever anime DJ bar, which will play mainly hits from anime and games, has opened in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, the hallowed ground of the country’s otaku culture.

Alchemist opened Sept. 29 with a promise to play music and video from old anime, current anime, game songs, vocaloid songs and more.

Alchemist is staffed by a group of women well-versed in the otaku culture, but also aware of those not so familiar with developments in the anime culture centered in Akihabara and trained to help such people gain an understanding of anime and games.

A DJ/VJ team has been formed by the bar and will occasionally perform anime song-based shows in other Tokyo clubs, with a DJ mix CD also in the works, bar operators River Castle Corp. said.

Plans are to afoot to collaborate with anime and game production companies, voice actors, idol performers and other operators of concept cafes within Akihabara to gather all types of anime and anime songs at the bar.
