NAGANO (majirox news) — An envelope exploded Oct. 19 at 12:20 p.m at the home of an unidentified woman in the city of Chino at Nagano prefecture, injuring the 47-year-old, according to Chino police. She suffered burns to her face.
“We don’t know where the envelope came from,” a police spokesperson said. “The envelope had the sender’s name and address on it, but it was destroyed.” No other details were given.
The woman came home from having lunch at a restaurant and opened the sealed envelope when it exploded in her entry hall. The taped envelope arrived at her home on Oct. 17 and was 25.5 cm (10 inches) long and 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide.
A neighbor called the authorites after the explosion.
The police are investigating the incident.
