TOKYO (majirox news) — Beating the odds, a fourteen-month-old boy survived being thrown from the 10th floor of an apartment building at 9 a.m. on Dec. 15 in Tokyo. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was reported to, miraculously, not have suffered any injuries.
According to police, the boy’s father, Shingo Hashimoto, 37, called police and said, “I killed my son.” He told police that he strangled the defenseless boy because he wouldn’t stop crying and then threw him out the bedroom window. The boy’s 38-year-old mother was taking the boy’s 4-year-old sister to nursery school and his grandmother was at the market when the incident occurred.
The police rushed to the Kashima Construction Company housing complex in Koto ward, where the family lives, and found the boy conscious and crying in thick bushes. “The shrubbery acted to break the boy’s fall and was between 40 and 50 cm (16 and 12 inches) in height,” the authorities said. “It acted like a cushion and saved the boy, who had landed on his head.”
Hashimoto, who was arrested for attempted murder, told police he was having problems at work.
