Tax forms are blowin’ in the wind

FUKUOKA (majirox news) — Tax officials from the Fukuoka prefecture asked the public for help Aug. 18 in retrieving tax office documents, missing after suddenly blowing away when hit by strong winds while being carried off for disposal

About 70 Kurume Municipal Government officials have already spent two days searching for about 300 documents, which were blown away in the abrupt gust that arose when the papers were being taken for shredding and incineration on Wednesday.

“If anyone finds the papers, please hand them in,” a Kurume official told reporters at a news conference on Thursday.

A Kurume spokesman said two officials were preparing to carry off for disposal about 60,000 tax-related documents, which they had loaded on a cart and taken outside City Hall, when the strong wind hit sending hundreds of pieces of paper flying through the air on Wednesday afternoon. Dozens of workers spent the rest of the day and the following day looking for the lost documents.

The documents contain private information such as the names and addresses of people as well as the amounts of local government taxes they paid.
