TOKYO (majirox news) — Dozens of JR Chuo Line passengers were forced to change trains and travel back after a daydreaming driver forgot to stop at their station and continued onward, East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) said Sept. 24.
About 70 passengers had to travel back from Higashi Koganei Station in Tokyo after the driver ignored the scheduled stop at the previous station, Musashi Sakai. Nobody was injured in the incident.
“He was thinking about something else and forgot to apply the brakes,” a JR East spokesman said.
JR East said the driver approached Musashi Sakai Station and continued past it, stopping some 80 meters after the platform after realizing what he had done. As it was impossible to reverse the train, the driver continued on to the next stop. Passengers who had intended to alight at Musashi Sakai were forced to catch another train back to their stop.
Services were not delayed by the incident.
